Volunteers Required
Due to the ongoing Viruses all training at the station has been restricted until further notice.
The Unit recruits and trains volunteers from all sections and genders of the community in the skills appropriate to the provision of the services described. We also cover administrative work and radio procedure.
We hold Volunteer Ambulance Aid classes, which are organised according to their age and ability.
These volunteers are trained to a recognised in-house certificate level.
Criteria
A reasonable standard of education and physical fitness is expected.
As from January 2018 any member of the public wishing to apply to join GARU as Ambulance Aid will be requested to sit a aptitude test which will include a practical assessment and this will also apply if your applying for Ambulance Transport staff.
This service operates a child safety protection policy.
All staff are required to the obey the laws regarding Health and Safety enforced at the time including General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Volunteers are currently required for the Unit, so any member of the community interested should contact us.
Members of the community with disabilities are also welcome to apply too help or join.

Training Evenings
Junior Training Courses are held on Tuesday evening between 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Senior Training Courses are held on Thursday evening between 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Courses are run between November to May on a yearly basis (Outdoor practices are scheduled from time to time).
Note: Full training will be provided for all posts below.
Ambulance Aid Staff/Patient Commander (PC): This will require the candidate to attend all training modules and the modules will cover most aspects of Ambulance Aid to be administered to all patients and will include diagnoses. Furthermore your training will include Transporting uninjured casualties, e.g. Walking or wheelchair patients from their location and to the ambulance/s. Ambulance aid staff must be able to operate all the equipment on board the units ambulances safely and all aspects of this training will be continuously assessed both in the station and out on duties where possible. (Ambulance Staff Will Be Required To Complete 1 Public Event + 1 Transport Duty Per Month)
Trainee Transport Staff: In short transport staff are not required to have ambulance aid knowledge, but will be required to attain basic first aid qualifications and will be required to have full working knowledge of all the transport equipment and all ambulance equipment but more so know the safety aspects of the equipment and once again full training will be provided and you will be required to fill out a training form after each session. (Transport Staff Will Be Required To Complete 2 Transport Duties Per Month)
Family and friends: Family and friends will only be permitted to transport Wheelchairs and walking case patients from their homes to the ambulance and to their destination and vice versa. However if any Training is required or undertaken must be recorded. (Personal Skills Record Sheet) This personal skills sheet will be supplied by us and remain the property of GARU.
Friends and family do have a right to attend an AGM.
Note: GARU Management Committee members must be a full member of GARU hence they must fill out an application form.)
